Physical Therapy*- Ankle and Foot
These feet are made for walking....and the force of impact in the foot in normal human gait is over 600 pounds per square inch! That number goes way up when we run. Understanding normal and abnormal biomechanics of the foot and ankle is critical when working with this important body part. The Cantrell Center for Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine has a wealth of experience in the treatment of foot and ankle dysfunction. Many times patients need "orthotics" which are custom molded shoe inserts designed to impart biomechanical control through the foot and ankle. Sometimes these devices are merely for accommodations to help make a patient more comfortable without altering their foot mechanics. Either way the goal of orthotics (sometimes referred to as arch supports) is to make your life a little less painful and easier to live. Not all patients are orthotic candidates. Many patients need other forms of treatment of the foot and/or ankle. These are some diagnoses of the foot and ankle that can be effectively treated with physical therapy:
