Fitness Classes- Class Descriptions
The Cantrell Center offers a variety of fitness classes- both aquatic and on land. Never been a member before? Local residents can visit twice for FREE!
Aquatic Fitness Classes
Water Aerobics: These classes are offered multiple times throughout the day. While there are no beginner-‐intermediate-‐advanced classes per se, each class can be modified to fit all members’ fitness levels. Instructors are able to give different modifications to make an exercise harder for the more progressed member or easier for those who have had injuries and joint replacement, etc. Learn more
Arthritis Class: This class is intended for those with Arthritis or other physical conditions that call for low-‐intensity pool exercise. Instructors take the class through range-‐of-‐motion exercises that keep the joints fluid and moving. We keep the water between 84-‐88 degrees to meet Arthritis Foundation regulations. This class is reserved for those physically unable to participate in other classes like Water Walking & Water Aerobics. Learn more
Water Walking: This is a great class for those members who have gotten what they needed from the Arthritis class but are not yet ready for water aerobics. Instructors take participants through a variety of water walking techniques utilizing both upper and lower body exercises. This class is intended to keep you moving for 45-‐60 minutes at a pace that will get your heart rate up yet still be appropriate for multiple levels. Learn more
Lap Swim/Solo Aquatics: Lap swim and solo aquatics is offered multiple times throughout the day allowing members to use the pool for lap swimming, water walking, water jogging, stretching, or whatever they desire as long as they keep moving. Lane ropes are pulled during this time to divide the pool into 4 lanes; the 2 middle lanes are for lap swimmers. Please note that depending on the number of swimmers, 2–3 people may have to share a lane. The 2 outer lanes are for those water walking/jogging or using the bars for stretching, and so on. Fitness Classes on Land
Chair & Balance Class: In this 30 minute class offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in 8 week sessions, your instructor will take you through strengthening exercises in a chair as well as standing balancing exercises, at times using equipment such as dumbbells, exercise balls, resistance bands, and more. A brief assessment is required to determine class eligibility.
Beyond the Chair: In this 30 minute class offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in 8 week sessions, your instructor will take you through strengthening exercises not limited to a chair. You will go through intermediate/advanced balance exercises, standing for longer periods of time and focusing to increase flexibility, strength, balance. A brief assessment is required to determine class eligibility.
LocoMotion: In this upbeat, 30 minute balance & cardio dance class, your instructor will lead you through basic dance exercises to
several of your favorite tunes. This class offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in 8 week sessions will target your coordination, challenging participants to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. A brief assessment is required to determine class eligibility.
Cycling Revolution: This fun class is for those of you who are looking for a challenge yet it is welcoming to all regardless of your level of fitness. Instructors take you through a challenging 55–60 minute ride climbing up hills, jumping, hovering, or sprinting to get to the finish line. All of these different ways to ride are further intensified by resistance. For first timers, the resistance is kept at a minimal level while those who are more seasoned in the class are encouraged to push to maximum levels. Bike shorts or padded seat covers are recommended since it will take a few classes to get used to the bike seats. Learn more
Power Hour: This 60-minute condensed Bootcamp-style class incorporates cardio, strength training, ab exercises, and more, and is offered for all levels. This class is done in a circuit style where you’ll perform an exercise for an alotted amount of time and rotate through different stations. Learn more
Abs Class: Offered on Wednesdays at 12:30pm, this 30-‐minute class includes a variety of abdominal exercises that vary from week to week. Set up in a circuit style, each participant will rotate through lower, upper, and oblique abdominal exercises that will be performed for 1 minute. After a minute, you will then move to the next exercise to challenge a different part of your core. Modifications can be made depending on one’s fitness level. Anyone that participates must be comfortable with getting up and down from the floor and moving from one exercise to the next. Learn more
Additional Programs
Bootcamp: This 8-week program is offered from time to time. If interested, please call us at 478-333-6777 to be placed on a waiting list so you’ll be among the first to know when dates are determined. Each “bootcamper” will go through an initial assessment and Nutrition Seminar. After that, Bootcamp meets on Monday and Thursday from 6–7:30pm for a grueling workout that can include cardio intervals, strength training, water aerobics, indoor cycling, triathlons and much more. Outside of the workouts, each participant is asked to keep Nutrition logs and do assigned homework. Learn more
