My husband’s 77 year old grandmother is participating in the Cantrell Center 5K!! I never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth!! She has always encouraged me when I would talk about the different 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and even a marathon that I would participate in, but I never would have thought, in a million years, that Nanny would even consider a 5K!!!
She and my mother-in-law, Shirley, began walking on a daily basis about 4 months ago. Shirley would tell me about their walks in the park and how Nanny would want to increase their distance, speed… even adding some hills!
Nanny was just tired of not feeling well. She wanted to make a change. This has now turned into an almost daily routine for them. So one day I mentioned that they should consider walking in the Cantrell Center 5K…and without hesitation, she said YES!!!
Exercise has always been a passion of mine so knowing Nanny, my 77 year old Nanny (yes I claim her because I love her so much), is wanting to participate in the Cantrell Center 5K makes me so incredibly happy! “5K attire” is even on her Christmas list this year! WHAAAT??!
My kids (each having participated in the Cantrell Center 5K in the past) want to participate again this coming year with Nanny! Can you say ‘super proud momma’?!! Nanny says she may even run a little. And you better believe, probably with tears in my eyes, I will be cheering her on every step of the way!! Go Nanny!!
I will be sure to write a post-race blog on how she did!! Stay tuned!
