Water Aerobics Instructor
Hello! My name is Kathy Garrison and I previously worked here at the Cantrell Center from 2007 to 2010. This was the best job I ever had and the people were awesome! So when I moved back to town in October 2020, I dropped by to visit and left my contact information. A few months later I received a call asking if I would be interested in being on the wellness staff as a water aerobics instructor— and here I am. I am so excited to be back on staff!
I was born and raised in Middle Georgia. I have 3 awesome children, Roger, Tiffani and Alicia, who have gifted me with 8 grandchildren (ages 2 years to 21 years); 7 granddaughters and one grandson.
I enjoy the outdoors and gardening— digging in the soil, planting and watching plants grow is therapeutic for me. I also enjoy reading (current favorite book The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah) and yoga; with aerial yoga being one of my latest challenges (this allows you to get much deeper into original yoga poses).
I am in the process of taking each of my grandchildren individually on a special trip. Thus far, I traveled to Alaska and gone dogsledding and hiking on The Magical Matanuska Glacier, walking on ice that is tens of thousands of years old! We also saw reindeer and muskox. I visited Jackson Hole Wyoming during “Snowmageddon” of 2019 and hiked the grand Tetons National Park; I also saw bison, moose, eagles, mountain goats, porcupines, and elk. I have gone hang gliding at Lookout Mountain and swam with the manatees in Crystal River, Florida. The most stunning national park thus far has been Bryce Canyon in Utah with so many hoodoo formations, the work of Mother Nature— along with the Zion National Park in Utah.
I have been active most of my life: school softball, basketball, aerobics, yoga, weight training; but because I have osteoarthritis (plus I am 63 years old), there are limitations to my functionality and range of motion today. However, the pool is a retreat for me.
The staff here is the best; it feels like a family, we care about each other.
